IMPD investigating double homicide on city’s northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two people were found dead, with two others found injured at two separate shooting scenes on the city’s northwest side early Saturday morning.

Around 12:40 a.m., IMPD received an anonymous call of shots fired at The Viewpointe on West Lane Apartment Complex at 76th and Manchester. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the hand.

“That individual then directed them to an upstairs apartment here in the complex where they located another individual inside that had gunshot wounds and was deceased on the scene,” IMPD Deputy Chief Valerie Cunningham said at the scene.

According to Cunningham, within 18 minutes of the initial shooting call, officers were called to a gas station at 71st and Michigan for a person who was shot. They found a man who had been shot in his shoulder and cheek.

While officers were at both scenes, a person living in the apartment complex found an injured person in the parking lot.

“We then found that individual to be unresponsive and suffering from what appeared to look like gunshot wounds and he was also deceased here on the scene,” Cunningham said.

Police believe the four people are connected.

“When firing starts happening, when people start shooting off guns, they want to get away from it, so we suspect this individual wanted to get away from the area, but he was wounded and stopped at the Shell. At that point in time that’s why we were called there,” IMPD Officer Jim Gillespie said, “It is very possible that they could have been shooting at each other, that’s not a determination we have at this time, but we do believe that all parties are involved.”

Both of the victims with non life-threatening injuries were taken to the hospital. Police have not released the names or ages of the people killed.

IMPD has not released any suspect information.Stay with WISH-TV for updates.
