Man taken into surgery after shooting on east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man is in surgery after being shot on the city’s east side Saturday night.

The shooting happened in the 2200 block of East 10th Street just after 7:30 Saturday evening.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a man got out a white vehicle to chase a woman down the sidewalk.  In order to get away from the man chasing her, the woman attempted to seek shelter inside an apartment.

As the female was about to enter the the apartment, the man began shooting.  However, the man  missed and instead a man who opened the apartment door and a woman standing behind him were both hit.

Police said the man inside the apartment was hit multiple times and was taken straight into surgery at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hosptial.  The woman who was shot, is said to be doing okay, was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

The suspect then fled the scene in a white vehicle.
