FBI involved in terrorism investigations after 3 attacks in 3 cities

NEW YORK (WISH) – There were three attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota on Saturday.

The New York Police Department announced Monday morning that they are looking for 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami, in connection with the Chelsea bombing.

New York’s governor said it looks like the Manhattan bombing could be an act of terrorism with foreign connections.

The attacks started Saturday morning in Seaside Park, New Jersey, after one of three devices wired together in a garbage was detonated. Police said it likely timed to disrupt a Marine Corps Charity Run.

Fortunately, registration problems delayed the race and no one was hurt.

Then on Saturday, there was another blast but this time in New York. The explosion reportedly came from a device in or near a dumpster. 29 people were injured, but were released from hospitals.

Investigators also found an undetonated pressure-cooker device just blocks away.

Law enforcement sources said surveillance videos show the same man near both locations.

Indiana Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence spoke about the attacks on Sunday.

“As a Governor and candidate for a national office, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on an ongoing investigation, other than to say we are thankful in our hearts that there was no loss of life as a result of those horrific attacks,” he said.

The third attack happened in Minnesota Saturday. A man in St. Cloud, while wearing a security uniform, stabbed nine people inside a shopping mall. Police said an off-duty officer shot and killed the attacker.

The ISIS media wing is claiming responsibility for that attack.

On Sunday, FBI officials said a backpack containing up to five bombs was found near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Overnight Sunday, a robot was sent in to investigate the devices. Elizabeth’s Mayor Chris Bollwage said no cell phones or electronic timing devices were found on the bombs, but the robot cut a wire while trying to disarm it and caused an explosion.

No one was hurt and train services resumed Monday morning.

Police in New York are still looking for Ahmad Khan Rahami.

Investigations into all three attacks continue.
