Police make arrest in fatal August shooting
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police have made an arrest in connection to a fatal August shooting.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 23-year-old Christopher Cooksey was taken into custody for the shooting of 22-year-old Deandre Johnson.
Police said surveillance was conducted in the 1300 block of Riley Place on Sept. 16 after learning that a murder suspect may be in the area.
The deadly shooting, which happened in the 3700 block of East Market Street on Aug. 31 just before 2:30 p.m, initially stemmed from a large fight inside a residence. The scuffle then spilled out into the street.
After arriving on scene, a victim, later identified as Johnson, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Cooksey faces preliminary charges for murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
