Virginia governor unknowingly poses for pic with Willie Nelson’s weed

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – When Gov. Terry McAuliffe stopped by the Farm Aid concert on Sept. 17 in Bristow, Va., he made the rounds, visiting members of the concert’s line that included Willie Nelson.

“He’s cool, but he’s not that cool.”

While visiting Nelson, McAuliffe posed for a pic that was tweeted by Nelson’s wife Annie, along with the caption, “UH-OH Trouble!”

The container next to the remote and glasses in the picture is some of Nelson’s own Willie’s Reserve, his brand of marijuana that is sold in Colorado and Washington. The recreational weed is, of course, illegal in Virginia.

WRIC-TV reached out to the governor’s office. Spokesperson Brian Coy explained that McAuliffe, who has never touched a drug in his life, had no idea the recreational drug was present.

“He was not and still is not aware of whatever was on the table or anywhere around him and wouldn’t know marijuana or related paraphernalia if it walked up and shook his hand,” Coy said. “He’s cool, but he’s not that cool.”

In an August 2014 radio interview, McAuliffe said that he is open to medicinal marijuana in Virginia but opposed to the legalization of marijuana to the general public. WRIC-TV reached out to Annie Nelson about the photo but did not get a response.
