Woman shot in the stomach ID’d; condition upgraded

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman who was shot in the abdomen drove herself to the hospital, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Brittney Bruce, 31, has been upgraded to fair condition after being shot just after 3 a.m. Sunday in the 4600 block of Oliver Street in Fort Wayne Police said Monday. Officers have made no arrests.

Officers first responded to an area in the 3000 block of Plaza Drive at 3:11 a.m. Sunday.

Fort Wayne Police spokesman Officer Jason Anthony said a 911 caller reported a woman had been shot and that she was driving herself to the hospital.

Once officers arrived along Plaza Drive, they said they did not come across any suspects.

Around 3:23 a.m. Bruce called 911 and said she was taking herself to the hospital. She refused to pull over and provide her location or wait for an ambulance. Bruce did say she was shot in the 4600 block of Oliver Street.

Anthony said Bruce arrived at a hospital at 3:37 a.m. She provided few details about what happened to officers, but investigators believe the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute.

She was transported to another hospital and initially reported in critical condition. Police spokesman Michael Joyner said Monday she was listed in fair condition.

Detectives interviewed potential witnesses and crime scene technicians gathered and processed potential evidence.

Police have not released any suspect information. Joyner said Monday that no arrests have been made and the investigation is “ongoing.”
