Police arrest Nashville man after standoff

NASHVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – A Nashville man was arrested Monday night at Brown County State Park after a standoff with officers.

According to police, Larry Stearley, 77 of Gulf Shores, Alabama, daughter called police after receiving disturbing texts from him.

When Indiana Conservation Officers arrived to the family’s cabin in the park, Stearley came to the cabin door and pointed a gun at the officers. Police said one shot was fired by an officer as the officers left the porch and took cover in the woods.

Conservation Officers called for backup from Brown County Sheriff’s Department and Nashville Police Department.

After the situation was under control, Stearley was arrested, transported to the hospital for evaluation and then taken into custody.
