Tanker truck crashes through auto lot

BERNE, Ind. (WANE) A tanker truck crashed through a Berne auto lot on Tuesday, destroying several cars and property in its path.

Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a northbound semi crossed over U.S. 27/South Church Avenue at S.R. 218/West Main Street in Berne. The tanker truck sped up and over the sidewalk then crashed into a lot of cars at Classics Plus Auto Sales.

Several cars and a van sustained damage in the crash. A small white SUV was left crushed beneath the tanker. A corner of a building was also damaged.

Police have not said why the semi driver lost control of his rig. The wife of the owner of the lot said nobody was injured in the crash.

Its not clear what the truck was hauling. Tanker trucks can carry liquefied loads, dry bulk cargo like feed or grains, or gases.
