Texas police use Facebook to find girl wanted in four armed robberies

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin police have arrested a juvenile in the four robberies that happened in Austin and Pflugerville over the weekend, but they’re still searching for the man seen in surveillance video with the girl.

La Unica Michoacana ice cream shop in Austin is one of the places police say the girl robbed on Saturday. The manager, who doesn’t want to be identified, says the girl looked suspicious when she walked into the store.

“I asked her, ‘What can I help you with?’ And then she told me directly, ‘I want your money or you’re going to die,’” explains the manager. “And that’s when she pulled out her knife.”

The manager tried not to show her fear. “I felt really, really nervous. I had no idea what to tell her, but I just got some courage in me and said ‘I’m not going to give you anything.’”

The girl took off with their tip jar.

The same suspect is also accused of robbing three Walgreens stores over the weekend. In the latest case that happened Sunday, the girl was seen with a man police are now looking for.

“The first tip we got was from a patrol officer who remembered one of the suspects in the video from a previous call,” explains Detective Jason Chiappardi with the Austin Police Department.

APD then verified the girl through Crime Stoppers tips and Facebook.

At least five people pointed to a young woman they believe is the robber on our KXAN Facebook page. Police are not saying if the girl they arrested is the same person, but they used online photos to catch the suspect.

“We were able to use Facebook to match up from the robbery videos, to show that the person was wearing the same clothing,” explains Det. Chiappardi.

Police are relying on more tips to help them catch the second suspect. Detectives say they’ve received few tips on the second suspect. If you have any information on the man, call the Austin Police Robbery Tip Line at 512-974-5092, or Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
