Woman turns herself in on warrant, found to be hiding drugs inside of body

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A woman who went to turn herself in on a warrant was found to be hiding drugs inside of her body.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Amanda Weliever of Indianapolis arrived at the Johnson County Jail Tuesday night to turn herself in. She had been wanted for failure to appear on a conversion charge.

A corporal at the jail went to perform a strip search on Weliever and found a condom with 2 clonazepam pills inside of Weliever’s vagina. Seven more pills of gabapentin were found inside of another condom.

Weliever told investigators that she had a prescription for the gabapentin but investigators were unable to locate one.

Weliever also told jail staff she had taken two Xanax pills before turning herself in, which she also doesn’t have a prescription for.

“Some wonder how some people die in the jail. Sometimes this is how,” said Sheriff Doug Cox. “She put her life in jeopardy. If the condoms were to burst, I suspect she could have died.”

Weliever now faces additional charges of possession of controlled substance and possession of a legend drug.
