Shelli Yoder steps up attacks on Trey Hollingsworth

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Democrats believe they have a chance to upset Republican Trey Hollingsworth in the race for the 9th District Congressional seat.

So, they are stepping up their attacks.

Democratic candidate Shelli Yoder joined with labor leaders Thursday to make the case that Hollingsworth can’t relate to blue collar workers. They are reacting to a comment by the campaign manager for Hollingsworth who said that he understands blue collar workers because he employs them.

“Trey Hollingsworth was born with a silver spoon in his mouth,” said AFL-CIO President Brett Voorhies. “He doesn’t understand the struggles of working people, let alone working Hoosiers since he’s not one by birth.”

In his ads Hollingworth calls himself a job creator and points to the fact that a hundred Hoosiers work in one of the plants he owns.

In her ads Yoder talks about a middle class upbringing and being tight with the dollar.

“Tennessee Trey’s remarks disqualify him from being a serious candidate for the 9th district,” said Yoder. “It shows his character as a candidate and it could preview how he’d run this office.”

Yoder also demanded again that Hollingsworth release his tax returns.

The Republican has said that he’s more concerned about the tax returns of Indiana voters. Yoder says he may be trying to hide the fact that he hasn’t paid taxes in Indiana.
