Greenwood restaurant creates gourmet dog menu

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — More and more restaurants are going “dog friendly,” but one Greenwood eatery is taking that to a whole new level.

Having a dog menu is a pretty recent trend developing across the country.

At Revery, the owner drew inspiration from restaurants in other cities and wanted to help bring the trend to Greenwood.

The newest menu items at Revery in Greenwood sound good enough to eat.

“One of our favorites is the chicken and sweet potato, we also have the tuna and salmon stew, chicken and beef stew,” Revery General Manager Eric Kett said.

But they’re not meant for two legged customers.

“We’re here to make sure the dog can have dinner as well,” he said.

One of Greenwood’s most popular restaurants is reaching a whole new set of patrons.

“The owner Mark Henrichs is a big dog lover himself, he has a dog,” he said, “He did a little research and decided that Greenwood needed a dog menu for our patio.”

The dog gets popcorn on the house.

Then the entrees run about $3 to $4 each.

They include many of the same ingredients the restaurant puts in its normal dishes.

“Real chicken, real vegetables, wholesome human quality food,” Dog owner Krista Taggart said.

In fact, some people have tasted the dog food themselves.

“They said it was very flavorful,” Kett said, “I’m not so sure they’d have it for their entree, but they definitely gave it to their dog and their dog enjoyed it as well.”

Taggart didn’t try the dog dish, but her pup Leia dug into the chicken and sweet potatoes.

“My daughter, Rory, loves taking Leia everywhere possible,” she said, “So the idea that we could take her with us to eat, and she could have her own menu, is a fun special treat for all of us.”

This was their first visit to Revery for the dog menu and she said it won’t be the last.

“She cleaned her plate, she loved it,” she said.

Because the dogs are only allowed on the patio, right now the menu is seasonal.

“Hopefully we’ll have a couple more good months out here,” Kett said. “Feel free to bring your dog and have a good time.”

They started offering the dog menu last Wednesday and said they’ve already had a good number of owners bring their dogs.

If you don’t bring your dog along, Bella Dog Bakery in Greenwood is also making the restaurant its own dog biscuits to take home.
