One person injured after crashing into gas pump

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man lost control of his vehicle and saw it catch fire after hitting a gas pump on the far west side of Indianapolis.

Authorities said the accident happened overnight Saturday at around 12:30 a.m. at a Shell gas station.

The emergency shutoff on the pumps stopped the flow of gasoline from causing more damage.

The man had to be pulled out of the vehicle by an IMPD officer after refusing to leave it. He suffered minor injuries from the accident and would later be taken into custody.

Firefighters from the Wayne Township Fire Department extinguished the fire in about five minutes.
