Multi-county high-speed chase lands Indy man behind bars

LEBANON, Ind. (WLFI)- An Indianapolis man is in jail after a high-speed police chase from Lebanon to Clinton County over the weekend.

Thirty-one-year-old Dewell Kirby is being held in the Boone County Jail on preliminary charges including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle resulting in serious bodily injury, operating while intoxicated and criminal recklessness.

Police said they found Kirby driving recklessly in Lebanon Saturday morning. When they tried to stop him, he sped up and continued on State Road 39.

A woman in Kirby’s truck tried to jump out several times.

After striking stop sticks, the pursuit continued into Clinton County.

As the chase approached County Road 550 South and State Road 39, Lebanon police performed a pursuit intervention technique which caused Kirby’s vehicle to swerve and roll over several times, ejecting Kirby and 29-year-old Amber Burns of Delphi.

Burns was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Kirby was treated for minor injuries.
