CEO of Humane Society of Indy retires after eight years

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – After eight years of leading the Humane Society of Indianapolis, the CEO is retiring.

According to a release, John Aleshire was hired in Sept. 2008 where he helped stabilize the mission and operations of the shelter. In addition, he led management and board efforts to relieve the organization from financial insolvency. In 2014, IndyHumane announced the organization was debt-free.

Aleshire launched the IndyHumane Animal Welfare Center and started two mobile services which include:

  • Low-cost vaccines
  • Adoptions
  • Led the development and launch of the Albert G. & Sara I. Reuben low-cost vaccination clinic at North Michigan Road
  • Oversaw expansion of canine and feline behaviors programs

“I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to serve our pets, our community, and my IndyHumane family,” said Aleshire. “I will continue to be a voice and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves, and I leave the organization with so many memories that I will truly cherish forever.”

Aleshire will retire on September 30, 2017. A search for his replacement will begin in early 2017.
