Colts prepare for London trip

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – American football in London is nothing new, but it’s a different ballgame for the Colts, as they ready for Sunday’s game at Wembley Stadium against Jacksonville.

“I never in my life ever thought I’d be able to go to London,” said defender Zach Kerr. “But here I am, a couple days away from flying to London, to not only fly there and go there, but to play a football game, so it’s a good opportunity for me and the guys in the room.”

Some of the others have been there. Andrew Luck grew up overseas, his dad heavily involved with NFL Europe in the 90’s, so number 12 already has his blinders on.

“At the end of the day, it’s about a football game,” said Andrew Luck. “And it doesn’t matter where it’s played. we’re not going as tourists, I’m not going there to see Big Ben or Buckingham palace, going to play a game against the Jaguars, and at the end of the day, that’s what’s important to me.”

Then there’s the always affable punter. Pat McAfee pulled out the old glory shoes for the season opener on 9-11, so certainly, boomstick has something special planned.

“Well, I was going to wear one of those hats that they wear at the Buckingham Palace, but the NFL wouldn’t let it go,” said McAfee. ” I was going to wear a single bar to kind of throwback to the old days, you know, represent the old school football and let them know what football used to be like when there wasn’t big facemasks and people used to be rugged and tough and noses were broken on a daily basis, but the NFL wouldn’t let me do that either. So what I’m going to do is wear that Indianapolis Colts horseshoe like I do every single weekend and be excited to go and represent a sport that’s widely spreading across the country and the world and just have some fun.”

This experience is new for most of the Colts, while in 2013, Jacksonville committed one home game every year at Wembley Stadium in London through 2020. Time will tell if that overseas experience makes any difference.
