Docs: Fort Wayne mother admits to smothering children to death
ELKHART, Ind. (WANE) — Court documents released Wednesday reveal new information about the case of two children who were abducted and killed.
Court documents said Amber Pasztor, 29, told police she kicked down the door of her father’s home on Goshen Road and took two of her children, 6-year-old Rene Pasztor and 7-year-old Liliana Hernandez. Pasztor’s father had custody of the children. An Amber Alert was issued saying they were in “extreme danger.”
After the abduction, she told police she traveled to Elkhart and made several stops along the way, including at a park and restaurant. Then she told investigators at some point she covered both of their faces and noses with her hands until they died. She even demonstrated how she did it by putting her hands over her own mouth and nose for detectives.
Then around 5:30 Monday afternoon she flagged down an Elkhart Police officer and told him her children in the backseat were dead. According to court documents, Pasztor told officers on the scene she smothered her children.
Pasztor was taken into custody and police also discovered she had a warrant out for her arrest in Fort Wayne on an unrelated case.
Autopsies were performed on both children in Kalamazoo Tuesday. The cause of death was ruled as asphyxiation.
Pasztor has not been formally charged. Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill said at a press conference Tuesday he expects formal charges to be filed later this week.
In Allen County, investigators are still working on a case involving 66-year-old Frank Macomber. Pasztor was driving Macomber’s car at the time of her arrest. Investigators found Macomber’s body in a wooded area a half mile away from the home where the kids were abducted. The coroner said he was shot to death and it’s believed he was killed before the children were abducted. In a press conference Tuesday, Allen County Prosecutor Karen Richards said they believe Pasztor had a role in his death, but are still looking into the case. It’s unknown when charges will be filed in that case.
