Indiana mother was due in court the day of kids’ killings

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – New details are coming to light on Amber Pasztor, the woman police and prosecutors said abducted her children then killed them.

According to court documents, Pasztor was wanted in court Monday, the day she took her children, Liliana Hernandez and Rene Pasztor, from their grandfather’s home.

On July 25 she was charged with criminal trespass, she was found guilty on August 1 and sentenced to 365 days in jail. However, she ended up getting that suspended and served no time. She was given 20 hours of community service and was ordered to stay away from a residence.

Early this month she was found to be non-compliant and ordered back to court. That court date was set for Monday, the day of the Amber Alert.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the children’s father, Rene Hernandez, was the subject of a death investigation in the county in 2010.

Investigators found Hernandez’s body in a wooded area, cut in two. The crime was never solved. The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office said they talked to Pasztor at the time. She said she was pregnant with Hernandez’s child and had another child with him.

Those children were Liliana and Rene.

BACK IN COURT WEDNESDAY

(AP) — Prosecutors in Elkhart County say the probable cause hearing is expected to be Wednesday for Pasztor.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill said Amber Pasztor faces two preliminary murder counts. He said formal charges were to be filed later this week.

Pasztor did not have custody of her children. She was being held in the Elkhart County Jail. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
