Bloomington man arrested after drawing handgun, threatening to shoot victim

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – A Bloomington man was arrested Wednesday on several charges.

According to police, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the 8300 block of West Hendricks Road after a report there was a male at a home who was in a verbal argument with another male, and that a handgun had been drawn.

Officers arrested 68-year-old Alan Bates after witness statements. According to witnesses and the victim, Bates arrived at the victim’s home and threatened to physically assault the property owner. The situation then escalated to physical after verbal exchange between the suspect and victim. Police said Bates drew a black .45 caliber handgun and threatened to shoot the victim.

When officers arrived on scene, the handgun was taken away from the suspect.

Bates was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Center for charges of:

  • Intimidation
  • Criminal trespass
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Deadly weapon
