Brownsburg farmer cuts “get out & vote” into corn maze

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH)– A local farm family is hoping their corn maze will increase voter turnout.

The Frazee family runs an annual pumpkin patch and corn maze at Hogan Farms in Brownsburg.

This year, they used their nine-acre maze to send a message.

They cut the words “GET OUT AND VOTE 2016” into the corn next to an American flag.

“This year’s a very important year for the election,” Lisa Frazee said. “It’s very important for everybody to get out and vote.”

The Frazees tell visitors to use their phones to pull up a website with trivia questions. The site shows one question for each of maze’s eight checkpoints.

If you get a question right, the website tells you which way to go. If you get it wrong, it sends you in the wrong direction.

You can choose from a range of trivia categories, including one presidential category. (Hint: William Howard Taft allegedly got stuck in the White House bathtub, not Grover Cleveland.)

“We love doing this. It’s kind of a family affair. We have all of my nieces and nephews. My daughter and sons. It’s just a lot of fun,” Frazee said.

An artist designed the maze on grid paper, then Frazee’s son Zach spent two days cutting the design.

The family said it takes visitors 30 minutes to an hour to make it out, depending on whether you get lost. They give maps to folks who need help.

The family’s also offering games for kids, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo and hayrides.
