Vigil held for Indiana children smothered to death by their mother

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A vigil was held in Elkhart today to mourn the loss of 6-year-old Rene Pasztor and 7-year-old Liliana Hernandez, two children who were smothered to death by their mother.

The vigil was held Thursday behind the Elkhart Police Department on Waterfall Drive.

Rene and Liliana’s mother Amber Pasztor, 29, abducted the children on Monday from a home on the 7000 block of U.S. 33 before traveling to Elkhart. Pasztor’s parents had custody of the children.

Neighbors and relatives close to Pasztor have accused her of being addicted to spice, a synthetic version of marijuana known to cause hallucinations, erratic behavior and violence.

Memorial contributions for the children may be made to The Ronald McDonald House.
