Williamsport fatal fire victim still alive when blaze was set

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) – The victim in a fatal arson fire in Williamsport was alive when the fire was set, according to court documents.

The probable cause affidavit states that Heather Smith, 31, died as a result of inhaling super-heated air and carbon monoxide poisoning. The pathologist also indicated Smith was still alive and breathing when the fire was set. They did not find any sign of blunt force or sharp force trauma to Smith.

Scottie Kincade, 33, has been formally charged with two counts of murder and one count of arson.

According to court documents, his brother told police Kincade admitted to killing Smith and setting the house on fire.

During the course of the investigation, information was obtained that Smith had got boxes and other moving materials the day of the fire.
