Hit-and-run investigation results in drug, firearms arrest

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man believed to leave the scene of a crash could be facing more serious charges.

31-year-old Ryan Porter of Indianapolis was arrested on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing property damage, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of a handgun without a license, dealing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said witnesses saw a Chevy Impala leave the 1200 block of North Lasalle Street after striking two vehicles on the evening of Sept. 26. Witnesses were able to provide a plate number for officers.

The driver, Porter, was later located near 20th Street and Lasalle Street and was arrested for leaving the scene of the crash. Officers then searched his vehicle and found 16 grams of heroin, 13 grams of cocaine and a stolen handgun.
