Semi crash closes State Road 37 in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A serious crash closed State Road 37 for several hours on Monday afternoon. Police say two semi-trucks and box truck collided.

Police responded to SR 37 at Strawtown Avenue just after 1 p.m. One person had been ejected from the vehicle and was laying in the road.

The sheriff’s department and Indiana State Police say a white Freightliner truck was traveling west on Strawton. The truck failed to stop for the stop sign at SR 37 because the brakes failed.

The Freightliner then struck a  white International semi that was traveling northbound on SR 37. The impact caused the white International semi to enter the southbound lanes and hit a black Freightliner.

The driver of the white Freightliner truck was ejected from the truck and flown to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. The drivers from the two other trucks were also transported to the hospital by ambulance.

SR 37 and Strawtown Avenue were closed until 5 p.m. while crews cleared sheet metal and fuel from the road.
