10-year-old girl attacked while walking home from bus stop in Texas
GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) – A 10-year-old girl walking home from her bus stop was assaulted by a man in Georgetown,Texas Monday.
At 4:38 p.m., police were called by the girl’s father, who said his daughter was grabbed by an unknown man. The girl said she was walking when the man grabbed her right arm from behind and twisted it behind her back. He then wrapped his left leg around her legs in an attempt to knock her down, police said.
The girl fought back and was able to free herself from the attacker, who ran down Lakeway Drive toward Williams Drive. The girl was able to get to her house safely and told her older brother what happened.
The suspect is described by police as possibly a Hispanic male in his 20s, 5 foot 5 inches tall, of slender build with black hair and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a black polo style shirt and black jeans.
The only words the girl heard the suspect say were, “If you talk to anyone about this, I’ll come get you.” Police have searched the area and are still working to get additional information.
Georgetown ISD says they are working with police to provide increased security in the area. The district encourages parents to talk to their kids about stranger danger and asks students who walk or ride a bus home to walk in a group whenever possible.
Neighbor Dee Harrington said this incident scares her because she considers the neighborhood such a safe area. “Kids are always walking by themselves up here, kids younger than that who are riding their bikes by themselves,” she said.
Less than three weeks ago, police say there was an attempted kidnapping of a child walking to school in Round Rock. The student wasn’t hurt. Police are still investigating the incident. In Austin, police have recorded 13 attempted abductions so far this year, resulting in only one arrest.
