Police: Suspect in clown costume attacked person at Texas college housing

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) – A suspect dressed in a clown costume attacked a person at a Texas State University housing complex on Monday. Texas State sent a warning out to students in a University News Service alert, Tuesday night.

At around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Texas State police received a report of the assault, which they say took place around 7 p.m. on Monday at the Bobcat Village Apartments, located at 1301 Aquarena Springs Drive.

The suspect is described by police as around 6 foot 2 inches tall with an athletic build, wearing a clown costume described as a black-and-white striped jumpsuit, with a green wig, face painted white with black around the eyes.

Texas State police say the suspect grabbed the victim, but the victim was able to get away and left the area. The department is actively investigating the incident.

Students who see something suspicious are encouraged to call the university police department. For emergencies, call 911. Students who want assistance traveling on campus at night can call the Bobcat Bobbies.

The Austin-area experienced this week what many other cities and states have gone through: threats related to clowns directed at schools. While the threats are not considered credible, law enforcement is seriously investigating the threats and, in some cases, raising security levels.

On Monday, San Marcos CISD said in response to non-specific Twitter threats directed at San Marcos High School, students were brought inside from their outdoor activities and the district increased monitoring of the campus perimeter.
