Volunteers prepare for Circle of Lights

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Preparations for the Circle of Lights display in Indianapolis are underway.

On Tuesday, retired electricians with IBEW #481 filled the Indiana State fairgrounds. The volunteers are doing maintenance work on the 4,784 light bulbs that make up the display. Every bulb is checked, the wires are inspected, and sockets are replaced.

The goal is to make sure the lights are ready to go when they’re turned on around Monument Circle November 25.

“This is the last year for the incandescent bulb, so as they burn out we are turning them into ornaments to help fund the beautification and new decor campaign. All the bulbs will be replaced with LED ones starting next year,” said Bob Schultz with Downtown Indy Inc.

Those burned out bulbs are being turned into ornaments by Past Unique, an heirloom creator.

Each ornament will sell for $20. You can purchase them online beginning mid-October by clicking here.

Ornaments will also be available in the Downtown Indy, Inc. office starting Oct. 10, the Chase Tower, 19th floor and at the Circle of Lights event on November 25.
