Arrest made in Fort Wayne hit-and-run that hurt 5-year-old

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police have arrested a 39-year-old woman, who they believe struck a 5-year-old with her vehicle and drove off. Police said the child was left seriously hurt.

Kneisha McLellan of Fort Wayne is charged with a misdemeanor of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person, court records show.

Police said McLellan was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck a child in the 4300 block of Marquette Drive around 7 p.m. Tuesday. At the scene, investigators said the vehicle was west on Marquette and the child went into the road and was struck by the vehicle.

McLellan allegedly then drove off. Police found her vehicle a short distance away and she was arrested.

Police told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE, that alcohol could have been a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
