Convicted sex offender could face criminal charges for alleged abduction of Indiana teen

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – A convicted sex offender from Greenfield could face criminal charges after he was found with a missing Indiana teen.

According to 24-Hour News 8’s partners, The Greenfield Reporter, 20-year-old Dustin Fisher was arrested and booked into the Hancock County Jail after police received his name in connection to an Amber Alert issued Monday for a missing teen from Sheridan.

Officers were already searching for Fisher after he failed to return to Hancock County Community Corrections. The low-security facility allows inmates to leave during the day for work. Fisher is serving a two-year sentence on a battery conviction.

According to officers, a warrant was issued for Fisher’s arrest around the same time the Sheridan Police Department was told Fisher was last seen with the missing 17-year-old.

The two were found in Terre Haute and stayed overnight in police custody in Vigo County.

Police said it didn’t seem as if the girl was being held against her will, but police are continuing to investigate.

Fisher pleaded guilty to criminal confinement in May 2014 and was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years. Investigators said he did not follow the requirements and plead guilty in June 2015 for failing to register as a sex offender. While serving that two year sentence, he was charged and pleaded guilty to battery. Earlier this year, he was sentenced to serve an additional two years for the battery case.

Fisher will appear in Hancock County Superior Court on Thursday morning to face a charge of failure to return to lawful detention.

At this time, police have not determined if Fisher will face additional criminal charges to the alleged abduction.
