Hurricane Matthew giving many cruise ship passengers extra day at sea

(WFLA) – It turns out that Hurricane Matthew will be extending the vacation of many people headed to Florida.

AAA is reporting that ports in the path of Hurricane Matthew have closed, which means that cruise ships headed to those ports will spend an extra day at sea.

Ports impacted by Matthew include Port Canaveral, Port Miami, Port of Jacksonville and Port Everglades.

“It is not yet clear how long the ports will remain closed,” Evans continued. “Once Hurricane Matthew passes these ports will announce when it will re-open. Travelers with an upcoming cruise should contact their cruise line or travel agent to learn whether their vacation will be impacted by the storm,” said Vicky Evans, director of Field Travel Support, AAA – The Auto Club Group.

Cruise lines that operate from the ports include Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Disney, MSC, Norwegian and Princess Cruise Lines.

AAA Spokesperson Mark Jenkins said that so far, cruise lines operating out of the Port of Tampa are still coming and going from the port.
