Gym owner flips for a cause with special Olympics gymnastics

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – There is a group of eight athletes in Plainfield training for a big competition in February.

They are going to compete in Flip for a Cause, a special Olympics gymnastics meet.

12-year-old McKenna Strange is one of the students competing. She has cerebral palsy.

“We like to encourage each other to do better,” she said of her and her teammates.

Stephanie Strout owns Flip Zone in Plainfield.

Last spring, Strout was approached by Special Olympics Indiana to start a Special Olympics Gymnastics program.

She said it was a no-brainer.

“If I can grow this program and make it as big as I can, I will make room for those kids to come here to Flip Zone,” Strout said.

Strout says the class does something great for these kids.

“As soon as they come into the gym you see that smile, they light up when they see us as their instructors, they light up when they see the gym,” Strout said.

The competition will be held at the convention center Feb. 4-5. For more information, click here.
