(WISH) – Federal officials said a massive human trafficking ring stretching from Thailand to the U.S. is now shut down.
Officials said more than a dozen people are facing charges.
Investigators said hundreds of Thai women were reportedly brought to the U.S. with fake Visas and sold as sex slaves.
“The victims, who were called flowers by the criminal organization were essentially held prisoner once they arrived in the United States. They were held in homes of prostitution and only allowed to leave if accompanied by organization employees,” U.S. Attorney, Anderw Lugar said.
The so-called “ring leader” is in jail in Belgium on separate trafficking charges.
Officials said 13 of the 17 people indicted are in jail.
