Eskenazi Health stops by Daybreak to discuss important decisions when it comes to breast cancer screening

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Katy Patterson with Eskenazi Health stopped by 24-Hour News 8’s studios Friday morning to discuss important decisions when it comes to breast cancer screening.

During her visit, Patterson said a lot of women don’t realize that not all mammograms are the same and that they have a choice in what type of mammogram they get. She said it’s also best if women seek the technology that’s best for them like the latest screening, 3D mammography.

The 3D Mammogram is proven to detect cancer 15 months earlier than conventional mammograms if breast cancer is found early. The five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent.

Studies have shown this exam is the only mammogram proven to reduce unnecessary callbacks by up to 40 percent. Studies also show it detects 41 percent more invasive cancers earlier than conventional mammography.
