Family going through back to back tragedies after death of marine veteran

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Family and friends are honoring the life of a marine veteran, who was killed in a motorcycle crash on the south side of Indianapolis.

It happened last weekend on South Meridian Street.

Fa-tia Johnson told 24-Hour News 8 her brother Jeremy Johnson, 34, was heading home that day from the Circle City Classic when he was hit by a car.

He was riding a motorcycle that belonged to their younger brother, who died one year ago this week while serving our country.

“For me and my brother to lose another sibling in under a year, for my parents to lose two children, it’s unimaginable,” she said.

Her family is still coping with the loss of her younger brother Quinn Johnson Harris, 21. He was one of six American airmen killed last October when a U.S. Air Force military transport plane crashed in Afghanistan.

“For his one year anniversary the whole family and Jeremy, we were going to Abilene, Texas for the one year anniversary memorial and so we were all getting ready for that,” she said. “Of course that was a hard time too coming up on that one year.”

But before the trip, Johnson said she found out her older brother Jeremy was killed in a motorcycle crash.

“Police did say that it was the driver was at fault that was driving the car that hit Jeremy and that the driver just didn’t look he didn’t see the motorcycle,” she said.

Jeremy Johnson moved to Indianapolis from Milwaukee more than a decade ago after serving in the marines.

Johnson said her older brother was a father of three, worked as a sheet metal worker, and had a contagious smile.

“Jeremy was fun you know outgoing, people know him as the life of the party because every time he walked in the room or anywhere he always had a big smile,” she said. “He was making sure to put a smile on someone else’s face. He was the first person to get on the dance floor and dance.”

Her family is relying on their faith to get through the days ahead. Johnson said both of her brothers were God fearing men.

“I personally and my family we know where both Jeremy and Quinn are so that’s what give us at the end of the day,” she said. “We’re happy because of that and we know that Jeremy is now with his brother in heaven.”

Jeremy Johnson’s funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday morning at Second Presbyterian Church.
