Hurricane Matthew may be one of the most expensive storms in history

(WISH) – Hurricane Matthew is shaping up to be one of the most expensive storms in history, and Indiana manufacturers face a shortage of workers.

Forecasters worry Matthew could become one of the most expensive storms in the nation’s history.

There are at least 200,000 homes along the coast from Florida to North Carolina at risk of damage from the storm surge alone.

Even if Matthew is downgraded to a category one storm, repairing and replacing those homes would cost $43 billion, according to corelogic.

If it remains a category three storm, the surge could affect an additional 300,000 homes, which could cost an additional $60 billion.

Right now the most expensive hurricane in the U.S. was Katrina which caused $154 billion in damages.

In other business headlines, America’s factories are facing a shortage of skilled workers.

Vincennes University found that Indiana could be short as many as $1 million manufacturing employees by 2025 as longtime workers retire and as employers complain of difficulties in finding new workers with the right skills.

Vincennes is working with Indiana companies like Subaru and Heartland Automotive to make sure workers have the right computer manufacturing and other skills for the future.
