Police chase on near north side ends in crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were on the scene of a crash following a police chase on the city’s near north side Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the report of a stolen vehicle near 24th Street and Keystone Avenue.

According to the release, the officer tried to make a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.

During the chase, the suspect vehicle came up behind a red Ford Mustang, driving fast.

The Mustang attempted to pull over and while they did, the suspect vehicle hit it, causing the Mustang to lose control and flip.

The suspect vehicle then crashed into a utility pole near 16th Street and Park Avenue.

IMPD officials say the driver of the vehicle fled on foot. Four other juvenile passengers were trapped in the vehicle and detained. It’s not clear if the passengers were injured.

24-Hour News 8 arrived on scene and found a red Ford Mustang flipped over and found three people in handcuffs.

Police were unable to locate the missing driver.

The driver of the Mustang sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

No arrests have been made.
