Carmel FD hosting grand opening for new station

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — The Carmel Fire Department is holding a grand opening for its new fire station.

Station 44, which replaces the old Station 44 built in 1980, is located at 5032 East Main Street.

An open house starts at 2 p.m. and runs until 6 p.m. A grand opening ceremony will start at 2:30 p.m.

There will be an honor guard and pipe and drum corps leading the ceremony.

The grand opening ceremony comes as Fire Prevention Week starts. This year’s theme is “Don’t wait, check the date.”

It’s recommends that smoke alarms be replaced every ten years.

Some other tips from the Indiana State Fire Marshal and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security are: Test smoke alarms every month, make sure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home and outside of each sleeping area, figure out at least two exits from each room of your home and establish a meeting place for your family outside and away from your home.
