Father identifies son as bank robbery suspect in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  After surveillance photos of a bank robbery suspect were aired on TV newscasts and posted online back in September, police got a phone call from a man who said he recognized the person in the photos and that person was his son.   That information led to the arrest of Joshuia D. Bursey for the robbery of the Fifth Third bank branch on Lima Road that took place on September 19.

Police were called to the branch at around 1 p.m. and were told by a teller that a man had reached over the counter and laid down a note that read, “This is a robbery keep quiet and give me the money and nobody gets hurt.”  The teller then handed the man several stacks of cash and he put the money in his pockets and walked out of the bank.

Photos taken by surveillance cameras were given to the media and after 6 p.m. a man called police saying the man in the photos was his son.  Bank employees then positively identified photos of Bursey as the robber.

The father told police that Joshuia was staying at the Travel Inn, but he was not there when officers went to find him.  Police then notified the media that Bursey was a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.  Police captured Bursey a short time later and he was charged with felony robbery.  His initial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
