State Schools chief candidates to debate at IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- IPFW will host a debate between the state’s two candidates for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Democrat Glenda Ritz and Republican Jennifer McCormick will debate at noon Monday, Oct. 17 in the Classic Ballroom in the Walb Student Union on the campus of IPFW. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Ritz, the state’s sitting schools chief, is running a re-election campaign built on the adoption of an all-incomes pre-kindergarten program. She is the only Democrat elected to statewide office in Indiana.

McCormick, the Yorktown Community Schools superintendent, has focused on the need to improve communication between the Education Department and local schools. She was selected by state Republicans in June over Fort Wayne educator Dawn Wooten.
