Bicentennial Torch Relay preparing for final leg

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Bicentennial Torch Relay will wrap up its 3,200 mile journey at the Indiana Statehouse Saturday afternoon.

It will make several stops before that finale including at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Doors open for a celebration at the track at 8:00 a.m. with a ceremony starting around 8:35 a.m.

The first 500 guests will get free donuts and milk.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will speak about Marion County’s history.

Other speakers will touch on the history of IMS and the end of this statewide bicentennial torch effort which started back on September 9 in Corydon, Indiana, and has since traveled six days per week through all of the state’s counties.

The event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will last until approximately 9:00 a.m. The torch will then head to Marian University for a celebration hosted by Down Syndrome Indiana.

The torch will then go to Butler between 10:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. where the Indianapolis Children’s Choir will perform.

Around 11:30 a.m., the torch will stop at the Indiana Blood Center, where there will be a community blood driver from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., the torch will head over the Michigan Street bridge over the canal. There will be a dragon boat on the canal as well as a small flower ceremony to honor those who have died from cancer. Around 2:15, the torch will stop at Monument Circle.

The relay will wrap up at the Indiana Statehouse somewhere around 3:45 p.m. for the Hoosier Homecoming Celebration.

The free event starts at noon and runs through 5:00 p.m. with live music and food trucks.
