Purdue testing out beer, wine in pub at Memorial Union

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Purdue University is to test opening a taproom with three kinds of beer, wine and appetizers in the school’s campus Memorial Union starting this week.

The university plans to open the pub Thursdays and Fridays and during home football games through Nov. 19 in a study and dining room on the union’s ground floor. It will be open to those aged 21 and older. When the taproom isn’t open the space will revert to its regular setup.

The (Lafayette) Journal and Courier reports that if the taproom is successful the university could keep it running throughout the year. If that happens then Purdue officials will have to work with the state Alcohol and Tobacco Commission and Indiana State Excise Police to make it permanent.
