Darrell Hazell out as Purdue football coach

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue has fired football coach Darrell Hazell per GoldandBlack.com.

Hazell’s firing comes one day after the Boilermakers lost 49-35 to Iowa on Homecoming.

Following Saturday’s loss, Hazell reiterated his belief he was the right person to for the job.

“I’m doing everything right to help these guys become better, Hazell said. “There’s no question that we’re moving forward. “Obviously it doesn’t feel good right after this game. But we’re doing a lot of good things. We just have to keep pushing. That’s all.”

Wide receivers coach Gerad Park will be the interim coach.

Hazell posted a 9-33 overall record at Purdue. He was 3-24 in Big Ten play.
