Car crashes into N.C. fire station, damaging bathroom and bedroom

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A woman crashed her car into a Durham fire station on Monday afternoon, leaving a large hole in the building and damaging rooms inside.

The incident, in which no one was hurt, happened around 4:15 p.m. at  Fire Station 14 at 1327 Umstead Road, officials said.

Firefighters were at the station when the crash happened. The driver of the car suffered a minor injury and refused treatment, Durham Fire officials said.

The crash happened when a woman was driving a car down Bivins Road toward the station, according to officials. The driver was “startled by something” and went through the intersection and hit the station, officials said.

The car crashed through several posts and the brick wall of the building.

“An unoccupied bedroom and a bathroom were severely damaged,” fire officials said in an email.
