Docs: Lafayette art teacher’s accused shooter was seeking man who ‘ripped him off’

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The man accused of shooting a Lafayette art teacher to death was due in court Monday on murder charges.

Tippecanoe County prosecutors are expected to charge Darius Printup with murder later Monday afternoon.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on the night of the shooting, Wednesday, Oct. 12, a witness – who claims he was with Printup on the night in question – told police Printup was looking for a man who “ripped him off.” The witness said Printup knocked on 52-year-old Kristi Redmon’s door, she answered. He said several shots were fired at Redmon and she fell onto the porch.

According to Tippecanoe County Coroner Donna Avolt, Redmon died of gunshot wounds. Redmon’s death has been ruled a homicide. The case remains under investigation and it’s now in the hands of the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.

Printup fled the scene, but he was arrested by police early Saturday morning. He’s being held in the Tippecanoe County jail without bond.

Printup is due to appear before a judge for his initial hearing later Monday afternoon.
