Governor candidates still have millions to spend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There’s big money flowing into the race for Governor of Indiana. Campaign finance reports filed Monday show both Eric Holcomb and John Gregg with millions of dollars to spend.

At the Gregg campaign, the fundraising is on a record pace for an Indiana Democrat. Gregg took in $4.5 million in the third quarter. He still has $4.8 million in the bank.

“John’s already surpassed what he raised four years ago, actually more than double what he raised four years ago,” said campaign spokesman Jeff Harris. “Again, I think that’s an indication of people having buyer’s remorse over the Pence/Holcomb agenda.”

“Holcomb raised an eye-popping $7.7 million in the third quarter even though he entered the race in July. But he has just $2.8 million in the bank.

“It says that people understand the stakes of this election,” said campaign spokesman Pete Seat, “and they understand the unprecedented nature of what we find ourselves in in a less than 100 day campaign for governor.”

The ad spending likely won’t match the $30 million that was spent in the 2004 race for governor but it will come close.
