Man gets 20 year prison sentence for impregnating teen

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting to getting a 15-year-old pregnant, according to a press release.

Police say 37-year-old Rashawn T. Carson pleaded guilty to 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct after impregnating the girl.

The victim was 6 months pregnant when a family member reported the crime to police in October of 2015.

The victim described several sexual encounters with Carson in a police report.

She further described the encounters during a forensic exam at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Spartanburg.

The baby was born in December, and DNA tests showed that Carson was the dad, according to Assistant Solicitor Hillary Welborn.

Police say Carson also pleaded guilty to 2 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor on an unrelated case.

This incident happened in April of 2015 after Carson gave two underage teens wine to drink.

Police found Carson, and the underage teens, in a parked car at a convenience store on W.O. Ezell Blvd. Empty wine bottles were found in the car, police say.

Carson’s prior criminal record includes convictions for possession of marijuana, open container and violation of the liquor law.

He must serve 85% of his 20-year sentence before he is eligible for release.

His name will also be added to the sex offender registry.
