Motion filed to determine if Amber Pasztor is competent to stand trial

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A motion has been filed in the case against Amber Pasztor to determine if she is competent to stand trial.

In an interview last week with 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE, Pasztor admitted to killing her children Rene Pasztor, 6, and Liliana Hernandez, 7. Pasztor also admitted to shooting her neighbor Frank McComber.

Pasztor said she went to her father’s home and took her children in September. In the interview Pasztor said she was spurred to action when she heard the Amber Alert issued to find her on the radio.

“That’s when I went straight to Elkhart and that’s when I killed my kids,” said Pasztor.

When asked why the Amber Alert was the impetus to smother her children Pasztor replied, “because I knew the police was gonna get us. And with me behind bars and my kids out here with all my problems.”

Pasztor refused to offer details but claimed she felt someone was going to harm her kids. She believed the only solution was to usher them on to heaven. She said she didn’t have the heart to shoot them, so she smothered them.

Last week, Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill said he will seek a sentence of life without parole.

Pasztor’s next court date is Wednesday. A note in the court entry said “amended charging information” will be discussed.

She has not been charged in connection to McComber’s death.
