INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Leaders in Indianapolis held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the impact of Marion County receiving a federal designation to combat drug operations.

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly, Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry, IMPD Chief Troy Riggs and special agent in charge of the FBI’s Indy Division and Lake County HIDTA Executive Board Chairman, W. Jay Abbott held the press conference.

The meeting comes after the Obama Administration Office of National Drug Control Policy announced Marion County as a federal high intensity drug trafficking area. The designation allows Marion County to receive federal resources to increase coordinated drug enforcement operations, improve public health and safety, and support prevention efforts.
