Multiple firefighters injured in Portland gas explosion

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A large gas explosion happened on Wednesday morning in Northwest Portland and multiple people were injured.

The incident happened at NW 23rd and Glisan. Plumes of smoke could be seen from many places in the city.

Firefighters were inside the building at the time of the explosion, and a number of them were injured.

KOIN 6 reporters on scene say witnesses heard a loud explosion and buildings in the area shook. Pictures showed the building along the block was completely destroyed.

Gas company NW Natural tells KOIN a 3rd party caused damage to gas line. The cause of the ignition is unknown. The gas is now off.
