1 dead after early morning crash in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man died after an early morning crash in Boone County on Thursday.

Police were called to County Road 300 South, west of US 421 around 1 a.m.

21-year-old James Dupler was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another man was found outside the car, 21-year-old Jack Kaplan was treated for minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

Police found both men outside of a 2003 white Ford Explorer.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

“Too often we are forced to respond to these types of crashes that could have been avoided,” Major Brian Stevenson said. “Today a young man’s life was taken because of drinking and driving. Please, if you see someone get into the driver’s seat when they have been drinking, do the right thing and take the keys. It could be a life or death decision.”
